World's Most Admired Companies - 2010 #fortune #googlemaps

Fortune has come out with its annual list of "The World's most Admired Companies". Coming in at #1 this year is of course Apple followed by Google.

Here's a Google Maps view of the locations of "Top 50 Most Admired Companies". The map opens up with a marker placed at Apple's headquarters (Cupertino, California). The information window which opens up above the marker has very basic information like the company name with a link to more detailed information at the Fortune site. In addition the address information is also shown.

Who is Hiring - #fortune #bestcompanies #googlemaps

Fortune has a list out there of the Best Companies which have job openings of at least 500 or more. So who are these companies and where are they located. I have mapped out the headquarters of these "Best Companies" on Google Maps. The map shows a sidebar with the list of the companies that are hiring. If you click on the names of these companies a information window pops up on the map above the location of the headquarters of the company. Additional details shown in this information window are Company Name, Address, Number of Job Openings and the type of job openings. The information window has a forward and back arrow which will take you to the next/previous "Best Company" Location.

Best Places to live in United States (2009) - Mapped!

Fortune is out with its list of 100 Best Places to live in United States and leading the list this year is Louisville, Colorado. Coming in at #28 is the place I live at currently - Plymouth Township, MI.

Even though Fortune has mapped out the data on Google Maps, I have taken the same data and created a Google Maps Mashup with "numbered" markers and also added a search capability (located on the left of the map) which narrows your results by "states".

My previous post listed World's 100 largest Corporations. Here's a look at 100 largest Corporations in United States on Google Maps. The Map shows the Company Name, City where its located and total revenues in ($ millions). Coming in at #1 is Exxon Mobil from Irving, Texas.

Wal-Mart Stores top the Fortune 500 List for 2008 with a revenue of ($ millions) 378,799.0 and a profit of ($ millions) 12,731.0.

Why is Apple #1?. According to Fortune

It is a tribute to its CEO that Apple, which ten years ago seemed headed for the slag heap, is No. 1 on this list. Steve Jobs has always had a knack for weaving magic out of silicon and software. But who knew he could build a $24 billion (in sales) company on the strength of a portable jukebox and a computer with a single-digit market share?

His pitch, as he leveraged the success of the iPod, was very simple: Apple products work, and if you buy more than one, they work better. The company (if not its stock) is on a tear, but even with the economy weakening, it will be interesting to see how economically sensitive this growth engine is

Fortune 500 Women CEOs and Gender Pay Gap in America

Here's Google Maps View of Women CEOs of Fortune 500 companies (source Fortune).

Also a Google Maps View of Gender Pay Gap in America. I found this in the May 7th, 2007 Issue of Time Magazine (page 20).

Louisiana had the highest pay disparity. (A College Educated women would earn 64% of what the male counterpart would earn, whereas in West Virginia a women would earn 89% of what the male counterpart would earn.
